China Academy of Railway Sciences Corporation Limited (commonly abbreviated as CARS) is a large‑scale science and technology enterprise wholly owned by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.. Its headquarters are located at 2 Daliushu Road, Haidian District, Beijing. History. Shortly after the establishment of the People's Republic of China in November 1949, the Ministry of Railways of the Central People's Government decided to establish a railway scientific research institution. On March 1, 1950, the Railway Technology Research Institute of the Ministry of Railways was founded in Tangshan with Tang Zhenxu as its director. In September of the same year, it was renamed the Railway Research Institute of the Ministry of Railways, and its leadership body was relocated to Beijing. The State Council of the Central People's Government appointed Mao Yisheng as the director of the institute. In May 1956, the institute was renamed the Railway Science Research Institute of the Ministry of Railways. In January 1975, it was again renamed the Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Railways. In February 2001, the Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Railways was renamed China Academy of Railway Sciences.
