Bloomfield is an unincorporated community in Edgar County, Illinois, United States. History. A log schoolhouse also used as a church was built there in 1830. John McKee was the first school master. The plat of survey was presented to Edgar County Circuit Court Clerk Johnathan Mayo on March 17, 1831. In 1836, the Bloomfield Baptists Association was created. In the 19th century, the village had general stores, a smithy, doctors, a wagon shop, and a lodge. In 1872 the Chicago, Danville and Vincennes Railroad bypassed the town a mile to the west. The town's businesses moved to Edgar, along the train tracks, beginning the town's decline.
