Georges Elhedery (born 1973 or 1974) is a Lebanese banker, who has been the chief executive (CEO) of HSBC since February 2025, having succeeded Noel Quinn.
Early life.
Elhedery was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His father was a banker, and his mother a teacher. He earned a degree in engineering at the École Polytechnique in Paris, followed by a postgraduate degree in statistics and economics from the École Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Administration Économique.
Career.
Elhedery worked for Goldman Sachs from 2001 to 2005, before joining HSBC. He moved to Dubai, where he became Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey CEO for the bank. In 2022, Elhedery took a six-month sabbatical to learn Mandarin, and rejoined HSBC as its chief financial officer.
As of February 2025, Elhedery earns a total of $6.8 million in annual compensation from HSBC.
