Kenneth Egano (April 2, 2001 – May 10, 2023) was a Filipino professional boxer.
Early life and career.
Egano was born on April 2, 2001, in General Santos City, Philippines. He began boxing at a young age and eventually compiled an amateur record of 47 bouts. He made his professional debut in 2020. Over the course of his career, he built a professional record of 7 wins and 1 loss.
Egano gained attention for his victory in an eight-round bout against Jason Facularin on May 6, 2023, as part of the "Blow by Blow" boxing series, which was promoted by former Senator and eight-time world champion Manny Pacquiao.
Death.
On May 6, 2023, after his victory in an eight-round bout against Jason Facularin as part of the "Blow by Blow" boxing series, Egano collapsed in his corner while awaiting the official announcement of his win. The collapse was sudden, and he was immediately rushed to Imus Doctors Hospital. Upon examination, he was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage and underwent emergency surgery and was placed in a coma. Despite the efforts of the medical team, he remained unconscious for four days. On May 10, 2023, Egano's death was confirmed.
Following the incident, the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), the regulatory body for professional sports in the Philippines, conducted an investigation and concluded that the fight was properly matched and that there was no negligence on the part of the event organizers or medical staff.
