The Princess Duanjing of the second rank (9 June 1674 – March/April 1710),was a Qing dynasty princess, and was the only daughter of her father Kangxi Emperor (r. 1661–1722) through his concubine, Noble Lady Bu of the Joogiya clanand his 2nd daughter to survive to adulthood and held the title Heshuo Gongzhu (Princess of the Second Rank).
Early Life.
In 9 June 1674,Princess Duanjing was born as Fifth biological of Kangxi Emperor (r. 1661–1722) and the only one through his concubine, Noble Lady Bu of the Joogiya clan.
But she was born at a bad time, the Sanfan Rebellion had ignited significant turmoil within the realm. Notably, just three days prior to Duan Jing's birth, the esteemed Empress Renxiao Hesheli, beloved by Kangxi, succumbed to complications arising from childbirth. During this period, Kangxi was deeply consumed by grief following the loss of his wife. With the realm embroiled in chaos and conflict, he possessed limited capacity to provide attention to a concubine who had borne him a daughter and was not favored.
Duan Jing loved reading poetry since she was young, and had some knowledge of riding and shooting, at the age of 19, she was given the title of Princess Heshuo Duanjing.
Marriage life.
In October of the 1692, she married Galzang, the second son of the Prince of Duling County of the Kharachin tribe of Mongolia .
In the 32nd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1693)—the second year after the princess's marriage—he ordered the appointment of a chief guard for her, applying the same protocol used for a beile.
Then, in the 37th year of his reign (1698), under the direction of Empress Dowager Renxian, Emperor Kangxi embarked on his third eastern tour to Shengjing to pay homage to his ancestors. During this journey, he took a special detour through Gubeikou and stayed at the residence of Princess Heshuo Duanjing in Kalaqin.
After marrying Galzang of the Ulianghan clan, Duanjing aleast initially enjoyed a good relationship with him, and she bore him two children.
Death and Burial.
In March of the 49th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1710), Princess Duanjing suddenly fell ill and died at the age of 37 and her husband was later buried with her.
The Mausoleum of Princess Heshuo Duanjing is located on the northern slope of the ditch, about 1.8 kilometers northeast of Shijia Village, Shijia Manchu Township, Kalaqin Banner, Chifeng City , Inner Mongolia. The tomb faces due south. The mausoleum covers an area of more than 10 mu and is surrounded by a stone wall about 3 meters high. The mausoleum is divided into two courtyards, front and back . There are 3 gatehouses, 3 main halls, 7 east and west auxiliary rooms in the front yard, and small doors leading to the backyard on both sides; there are 7 halls in the backyard, which were originally the place for the princess's clothes and ornaments. The tomb is round, about 2 meters high, built of bricks and stones, built on a square platform behind the hall, surrounded by stone carved railings, and a rectangular stone offering table is placed under the stone steps in front of the tomb .
The existing stone carvings on the ground are : a four-pillar stone archway with a white marble plaque, some parts of the archway roof have been stolen; a pair of dragon tomb tablets (severely damaged in recent years); a dragon -headed tortoise-shaped tombstone with Mongolian, Manchu and Chinese characters "built by imperial order". The tomb chamber has been destroyed. The Kalaqin Banner Cultural Relics Management Office has collected a set of white marble Mongolian, Manchu and Chinese epitaphs from this tomb, and a stele with Manchu, Mongolian and Chinese characters "buried by imperial order".
