Mohammed bin Futais Al-Marri is a Qatari poet who rose to prominence after winning the “Million’s Poet” competition on March 20, 2007, held in the United Arab Emirates. He became the first poet to win the program's grand prize and earned the title “Million’s Poet.” Judge Hamad Al-Saeed nicknamed him The Pacific Ocean due to his calm demeanor and the depth of his poetry. His father was also a respected poet in Qatar. Mohammed bin Futais belongs to the Al Murrah tribe, known for its many poets, and is specifically from the Al-Buhayh Al-Bishr clan. 
Early life and career.
Mohammed bin Futais Al-Marri began his poetic journey around 2001. He participated in numerous cultural festivals across the Gulf and the Arab world, including the Doha Cultural Festival, Hail Festival, Khalidiyah Festival in Jordan, and the Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition in Abu Dhabi. He also performed during the 2009 Layali February evenings and took part in all poetry evenings of the Nabati Poetry Forum in Dubai in 2009 and 2010. In March 2011, he participated in the fourth gathering of Qatari students studying in the United Kingdom, held in London.
Several of his poems have been set to music by prominent composers and performed by leading artists in the Gulf region. One of his most famous patriotic works is his 2009 piece titled “Lildar fi qalbi wa rohi wala” (“For the homeland, in my heart and soul, always loyal”).

Mohammed bin Futais Al-Marri is known for his emotional and deeply expressive Nabati poetry. One of his most celebrated poems begins with the line:
“Some people’s love drives you to madness, and words cannot fully capture their worth…”
This poem reflects his mastery of romantic and philosophical themes, blending intense feelings of longing, pride, and sorrow. Through vivid imagery and heartfelt expression, bin Futais explores the pain of unspoken love, the struggle for patience, and the emotional toll of devotion.

Donation of the Million’s Poet Prize.
After being crowned the winner of the “Million’s Poet” competition, Mohammed bin Futais Al-Marri promptly announced—directly from the stage—that he would donate the entire prize amount of one million dirhams. The donation was to be equally divided between people with special needs in Qatar and children in Palestine.
